MUMBAI: Orange is the new black for discounters.
Although red and blue are the favorite colors of full-service carriers, orange and white are increasingly used by discounters in their logo and color scheme.
After Akasa, Air India Express is the latest low-cost airline to adopt an orange and white color scheme. The Tatas on Wednesday unveiled a white, orange and turquoise color scheme for Air India Express, which has been merged with AirAsia India.
“We will discontinue the Air Asia India brand. You will see two airline designations, IX and I5, on flight numbers for some time, but the services, sales and distribution will be under the Air India Express brand,” the airline’s MD said. & CEO Aloke Singh said. In the 1990s, easyJet, the low-cost airline of Greek Cypriot entrepreneur Stelios Haji-Ioannou, had entered European airspace with a white and orange painted fuselage. The Australian budget airline Jetstar has also had an orange and silver color scheme since its founding in 2003.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said the merged airline is in the process of fleet expansion. “On average… between now and the end of 2024, AI will take delivery of a new aircraft every six days,” he said. Of the 190 Boeing 737 Max aircraft ordered, the first two are already with us, said Singh. The airline unveiled the new livery of its Air India Express unit at an event at its hangar in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
