DETROIT – Cadillac’s new entry-level electric model will be a compact crossover called Optiq, the company announced Friday.
The General engines brand said the vehicle, which will be its fourth EV, will slot in below the current entry-level Lyriq mid-size crossover EV, which starts around $59,000.
Cadillac declined to reveal pricing and other details of the 2025 Optiq, which is expected to go on sale in the U.S. as soon as next year. The vehicle is expected to be sold in North America, China, Europe and possibly other markets.
A Cadillac spokesperson confirmed Friday that the brand still plans to offer exclusively electric vehicles by 2030, despite slower-than-expected demand for the vehicles. Cadillac initially announced the goal several years ago. The parent company, GM, then set a goal to offer exclusively electric vehicles by 2035.
Cadillac’s first EV was the Lyriq, followed by a custom Celestiq sedan costing more than $300,000 and an upcoming all-electric version of the Escalade SUV, which starts at around $130,000.

GM, including Cadillac, has been much slower than expected in rolling out and producing electric vehicles as the company grappled with supply chain issues and difficulties in ramping up domestic production of battery cells.
Cadillac sold fewer than 5,400 Lyriq EVs through September. The company announced earlier this week that it will expand electric vehicle sales to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a right-hand drive version of the Lyriq.
“Cadillac is experiencing great sales momentum thanks to our strong product portfolio – and we are now expanding our operations globally,” Cadillac vice president John Roth said in a statement. “The introduction of a right-hand drive Lyriq will enable new opportunities in key markets where EV adoption is strong.”
