Kolkata:
Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Britannia Industries Limited (BIL), has said it aims to achieve a 50 percent diversity ratio by 2024 by increasing the participation of women in factory workforces.
BIL Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Amit Doshi said 38 percent of the company’s factory workers are women.
“We are aiming for a diversity ratio of 50 percent by 2024 of the current national average of 38 percent in our factories,” he said.
At the Guwahati factory in Britannia, the proportion of women in the workforce is 60 percent, and it will be increased to 65 percent, he said.
“We are proud to have a female workforce in areas typically dominated by males, such as engineering, taping and grinding, packing, housekeeping, pantry, lab testing, canteen and security,” he said.
The company has already launched a start-up challenge among female entrepreneurs for women’s empowerment, Mr Doshi said.
So far, the company has provided seed capital of Rs 10 lakh each to 30 female entrepreneurs for start-ups in fields such as e-commerce, digital services, ophthalmic care through mobile vans and child education, among others, he said.
He added that the company also has ties to Google to provide skills training to women across the country.
