EV prices will equal the cost of petrol vehicles within a year: Nitin Gadkari

The prices of all electric vehicles (EVs) will equal the cost of petrol vehicles in the country within a year, Minister of Road Transport and Roads Nitin Gadkari said Friday.
Gadkari went on to say that the government is promoting ethanol produced from crop residues rather than gasoline and diesel.
“I’m trying … within a year the cost of electric vehicles will equal the cost of petrol vehicles in the country and we will save money spent on fossil fuels,” he said as he spoke on ‘TV9 What India Think Today Global Meeting’.
The minister said the government is already promoting green fuels widely.
Mr Gadkari noted that waterways are a cheaper mode of transport for us than road and that it is going to be on the rise.
