Exports of goods from India rose 15.46 percent to $37.29 billion in May thanks to the healthy performance of sectors such as petroleum, electronic goods and chemicals, while the trade deficit widened to $23.33 billion this month, the ministry said. of Trade Thursday.
Imports also grew 56.14 percent to $60.62 billion during the month.
The trade deficit in May 2021 was $6.53 billion.
“India’s exports of goods were $77.08 billion in April-May 2022-23 with an increase of 22.26 percent from $63.05 billion in April-May 2021-22,” it said.
Petroleum and crude oil imports rose 91.6 percent in May 2022 to $18.14 billion.
Imports of coal, coke and briquettes rose to $5.33 billion, from $2 billion in May 2021.
Gold imports rose to $5.82 billion in the month under review, from $677 million in May 2021.
