On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for delivery in October traded lower by Rs 126 or 0.25 percent against Rs 50,012 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 9,974 lots.
Analysts attributed the drop in gold prices to participants shortening positions.
Globally, gold traded 0.46 percent lower at $1,709.50 an ounce in New York.
