According to data from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the government has obtained 161.95 lakh metric tons (LMT) of wheat during the Rabi marketing season 2022-23 to May 1.
Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were the states from which the maximum purchase of wheat was made.
More than 14.70 lakh farmers have benefited from the procurement process, the ministry said, with the minimum support price (MSP) value of Rs 32,633.71 crore.
At the same time, the government has also purchased paddy rice worth 760 LMT until May 1 during the Kharif marketing season.
The ministry statement states that about 110 lakh farmers have benefited from paddy sourcing with an MSP value of Rs 1,49,144 crore.
Maximum paddy sourcing was done in Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha among others.
