NEW DELHI: The GST Council decided on Saturday to levy a lower tax of 5 percent on millet basis flour when sold in pre-packaged and labeled form, Secretary of the Treasury Nirmala Sitharaman said. Flour, which contains at least 70 percent millet, will attract zero percent VAT if sold loose, and 5 percent if sold pre-packed and labelled.
The 52nd meeting of the GST Council, chaired by the Union Finance Minister and comprising representatives of the states, also decided to limit the maximum age of President and members of the Council. GST Court (GSTAT).
The maximum age limit for the GSTAT president is 70 years, while the limit for members is 67 years.
This is a change from the earlier age limit of 67 and 65 years for the president and members of GSTAT respectively.
The Council has also decided to reduce the GST syrup from 28 percent to 5 percent, and exempt alcohol for human consumption from the levy.
