The banking unions on Thursday postponed their proposed June 27 strike as the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) agreed to begin negotiations on their demands.
The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine banking unions, including the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), and the National Organization of Bank Workers (NOBW) threatened to leave. strike to push for issues related to retirement and demand for work five days a week.
Under the agreement with IBA, negotiating talks on several pending issues would begin on July 1, AIBEA Secretary-General CH Venkatachalam said after a meeting chaired by the Chief Labor Commissioner.
Other demands were an update and revision of the pension for all pensioners and the abolition of the national pension scheme and restoration of the old pension scheme for all bank employees.
