Meta Platforms Inc, the parent company of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, announced on Thursday that it has completely redesigned and rewritten its privacy policy for better understanding, including its terms of service, effective July 26.
“The past three years have brought about a number of changes in the privacy landscape as a whole, including people’s desire to better understand how their data is used,” the company said.
Indeed, that comes when there is a raging debate worldwide about the right of individuals to their privacy or the human right to privacy.
The human right to privacy relates to an individual’s ability to control when, how and for what purpose others, including companies, handle their personal information.
Protecting privacy is essential to ensure dignity, security and trust. It allows individuals to choose how their data is used and to develop their personality freely without worrying about misuse.
The social media giant said the revision to its privacy policy won’t give the company new access rights to its user data, instead giving Meta more power to customize the ads based on customer preferences and share information, with all controls in one. single location.
“While the language looks different in many places, these updates don’t give us any new rights to people’s data. Our goal here is to be clearer and more transparent by adding more details and examples of our data practices,” said Meta.
“We’ve also introduced new controls to manage the topics that users want to see ads about and who sees their posts. While people will receive notifications in the product as of 5/6, this new version will go into effect on July 26. , 2022,” the social media company added.
Meta also said the updated policy covers Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, but not WhatsApp, and that the revised design gives consolidated access to privacy-related controls, with more examples of data practices rather than legal rulings.
Referring to that, the company listed the following updates:
†Clear redesign: We have redesigned and rewritten our privacy policy to make it both more understandable and easier for people to access the options we provide to manage their privacy.
Updated Controls: We’ve added more details about how we use and share information with third parties, and introduced new controls to manage who sees people’s posts and what topics users want to see ads on.
Central place: Our new Privacy Center now supports the Privacy Policy, making it more available and easier to access alongside Meta privacy tools.”
