Bombay:
With the price of diesel sold to bulk consumers soaring by Rs 25 per litre, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) demanded Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi exempt all state and municipal bus services from the rise.
The price of diesel sold to bulk consumers has increased by about Rs 25 per litre, in line with a nearly 40 percent increase in international oil prices, but retail rates at petrol pumps remain unchanged.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, NCP’s Maharashtra chief spokesman Mahesh Tapase said the Center has decided to raise the price of diesel, given the war between Russia and Ukraine and the resulting rise in the price of crude oil internationally.
“I take this opportunity to ask for your kindness to exempt all state and municipal bus services that fall into the bulk consumer category from this increase in diesel tariffs,” Mr Tapase said.
The NCP leader said the decision by oil marketing companies to include municipal and government buses in the list of high-volume users will have “adverse” financial implications for the government and municipal transportation services, and that “it must be reversed immediately”.
