Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter sparked a meme frenzy as netizens shared hilarious take on “Chief Twit” across social media platforms.
In addition to serious debates about free speech and how the ‘misfit’ new owner could change social media discourse in the coming days and months, many saw the funny side of things and Twitter was soon bursting with hilarious, pungent memes as the Twitterati “galvanize” the new reality.
The world’s richest man and CEO of electric car maker Tesla Inc is now at the helm of one of the most influential social media platforms in the world. The new owner of Twitter Inc and the self-proclaimed freedom-of-speech absolutist fired top executives, including chief executive Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and chief of legal and policy Vijaya Gadde, shortly after completing his $44 billion acquisition.
Musk entered the famous Twitter HQ with a sink in his hand and posted a video with the caption: “Enter Twitter HQ – let that sink in!”.
The social media platforms were overflowing with funny videos and witty posts.
One such meme, which has since gone viral, shows a smiling Musk as Thanos, the villain in Marvel’s Avengers movie. In the meme, Musk is snapped with his fingers, with the move dramatically wiping out Twitter staff.
Another has a man – depicted as Musk – leaning out of the car window, taking bird after bird from a seller and freeing them one by one.
One of the clips that has generated massive views shows actor Govinda – in one of his films – going from hut to hut, asking to fire everyone indiscriminately and sell wards.
Along with the clip from Govinda’s old movie is the caption “#ELONMUSK after #TwitterTakeover and the firing of #ParagAgrawal, Ned Segal and Vijay Gadde.” Another desi making the netizens crack is a photo of a roadside Aggarwal candy store with the caption “#ParagAgrawal is back with a bang in front of Twitter HQ”.
