New Delhi:
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman has chaired a pre-budget meeting with the finance ministers of all states and territories of the Union to take their inputs and suggestions for the upcoming budget for 2023-24.
The meeting took place today in the national capital.
In addition to Nirmala Sitharaman and the State/UT (Union Territories) Finance Ministers, the Union Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary and Bhagwat Karad, Secretaries of various branches of the Union Ministry of Finance and Chief Economic Adviser Anantha, among others, attended Nageswaran attended the meeting.
Further details about the meeting are not yet in the public domain.
Nirmala Sitharaman has so far chaired several pre-Budget consultations with groups of experts and industry leaders, including experts from the agricultural and food processing industries.
Monday was the first meeting.
The formal exercise to prepare the annual budget for the next fiscal year — 2023-24 — began on October 10.
The budget for 2023-2024 is likely to be submitted on February 1.
Notably, it will be the last full budget for the current government before the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May 2024.
