The government has denied reports that Indian Railways will resume senior concessions from July 1.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has tweeted through its “Fact Check” handle that no such announcement regarding the resumption of concessions for seniors on trains has been made by the Ministry of Railways.
It reiterated that the Ministry of Railways currently only makes concessions to the physically handicapped, patients and students.

The clarification was given after there were reports in some parts of the media that concessions for seniors on trains will resume from July 1, 2022.
PIB called the news “fake”.
Former Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had informed parliament in March this year that the ministry, which had abolished concessions for seniors in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will not reinstate them yet.
Prior to the pandemic, Indian Railways offered a 50 percent discount to female passengers and 40 percent to male passengers in all classes.
The minimum age to take advantage of this discount was 58 years for women and 60 years for men.
