CHENNAI: Amid reports that US telecom giant Verizon is among the top candidates to acquire on a budget Vodafone ideaA global Verizon official denied such plans on Tuesday.
“We are not buying Vodafone, certainly not… It is not a matter of regulation [climate] but of opportunities. If the US wasn’t big enough or wasn’t growing, we would have looked at it [at India]. There are opportunities for us [consumer division] to grow further in the US and so we remain focused and double the capital commitments there,” Sowmyanarayan SampathDIRECTOR, Verizon Consumer Groupsaid in a media interaction here.
Vodafone Idea also denied that it was in talks with Verizon, Amazon, or upon acquisition of Starlink, owned by Elon Musk. “India is a critical part of our growth plans… It’s about capabilities and access to talent pools that we don’t have access to anywhere else in the world,” he added.
Verizon is the world’s largest consumer telecom player by subscriber base and posted consolidated revenue of $32.6 billion for the quarter ended June 2023. Consumer revenue was $24.6 billion.
