General Motors And Nvidia have agreed to a strategic cooperation that includes the automaker that use various products and artificial intelligence services of the tech giant for its next generation of vehicles, advanced driver systems and factories.
The companies announced on Tuesday that the new initiatives include building adapted artificial intelligence systems using NVIDIA Compute platforms, including “Omnerne with Cosmos”, for optimizing GM's factory planning and robotics.
The Detroit Automaker also said that the “Nvidia Drive AGX” will use for “in-vehicle hardware for future advanced driver systems and improved safety experiences in the cabin.”
GM refused to make costs public for the new tools with Nvidia. The technology company has tried to diversify its car company, which has included considerable work in data centers and GPUs.
“The era of physical AI is here, and together with GM we transform transport, from vehicles to the factories where they are made,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, in a release. “We are pleased to work with GM to build AI systems that are tailored to their vision, craftsmanship and know-how.”
GM has used NVIDIA -graphic processing units or GPUs for training AI models in various areas of its activities, including simulation and validation. The new company is spreading to hardware in the vehicle, design and operations in the cars, according to the companies.
The Automaker also tested the NVidia omnese since at least 2022. Part of the tests of GM was the design of a “digital twin” or replica, of its new design center and processes to support the development of virtual vehicles. It also acted as a single digital environment for employees to work and work together, according to a video last year with GM for Nvidia's GTC Developer Conference in 2023.

Nvidia expected it to close a deal with GM Midden-Last Year for Omnerne, according to an internal e-mail from the company viewed by CNBC. At that time, two sources with GM indicated that the automaker was not sure that the Nvidia and GPUs software were worth the high costs compared to other companies.
It was not immediately clear what the deal sealed for GM. But since that time, both companies have experienced more competition from China and uncertain legal changes such as rates. The GM shares were switched off by around 8% in 2025, while Nvidia is about 12% this year.
“AI not only optimizes production processes and accelerates virtual tests, but also helps us to build smarter vehicles and at the same time enable our staff to concentrate on craftsmanship,” said GM CEO Mary Barra in the release of Nvidia. “By combining technology with human ingenuity, we unlock new levels of innovation in vehicle production and beyond.”
GM and NVIDIA – Sharevoers
The companies have announced the new initiatives in connection with the GTC AI conference of Nvidia this week in California.
Nvidia describes Omnerne as a platform for “the development and implementation of physically -based industrial digitization applications.” It essentially connects a physical environment with a digital or software, world to optimize processes using a “digital twin” of a physical environment such as a GM design facility or factory.
Users of NVIDIA's Omniverse have recorded BMW, Amazon Robotics and Samsung, Rev Lebaredian, vice -president of Nvidia van Omniders and Simulation Technology, said during a media briefing a year ago. He said that the company had a license to Omniude for $ 4,500 per GPU, per year.
It is unclear how many GPUs GM need. But given the amount of robotics, sensors and other systems that are needed to operate a modern assembly factory, it would probably be quite a bit.
More than 20 other car manufacturers have used the “System on a Chip” hardware from NVIDIA in the central computer components of their smart vehicles, including Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Audi, Volkswagen and BYD, according to an industry -Equity research note of Jeffries in November 2023.
In recent years, Nvidia has seen the increasing demand for its GPUs, which are used for everything, from bitcoin -mining to ai -infection and training.
