The panel of ministers on tariff rationalization made some important recommendations
The Group of Ministers (GoM) on Good and Services Tax (GST) rate rationalization is likely to recommend that the GST council revoke the exemptions currently granted to some RBI services.
The panel led by the chief minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, which met earlier today, is also likely to recommend the repeal of the exemptions for hospitals where room rates exceed Rs 5,000 per day.
The panel is also likely to propose to the GST Council to revoke the exemptions granted to some airports in Northeast India.
The GST council, headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is expected to meet in Srinagar on June 28-29.
“GoM will submit an interim report on GST tariff rationalization before the next GST Council meeting in Srinagar on June 28-29,” Mr. Bommai said after the meeting.
According to sources, the GoM has not made a decision on the merger of GST tariff plates or amendment of the GST tariffs, although there are chances that a new meeting will be held soon to reach a consensus.
