In Mumbai, petrol is sold for Rs 120.51 per litre, while diesel is sold for Rs 104.77 per litre. Fuel prices are the highest in Mumbai of all four metro cities. Prices vary from country to country due to value added tax (VAT).
Fuel prices remained stable for more than four months despite the spike in crude oil prices.
Prices were maintained during the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
State-run oil refineries such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise fuel tariffs daily, taking into account crude oil prices in international markets and the exchange rates of the rupee and dollar. Any changes in fuel prices will be implemented daily from 6am.
India is 85 percent dependent on imports to meet its oil needs and domestic gasoline and diesel prices are linked to international tariffs.
Global oil futures fell slightly today as traders balanced a larger-than-expected rise in US oil inventories against tighter global supply. US crude fell 0.64 percent to $103.58 a barrel. Brent oil fell to USD 108.25 a barrel.
