New Delhi:
Electricity consumption in India grew by more than nine percent to 117.84 billion units in February this year, according to government data.
Robust growth in power consumption indicates continued momentum in economic activity in February.
Experts had previously said that power consumption and demand would increase significantly in March due to a further improvement in economic activity and an increase in temperature.
In February 2022, power consumption was 108.03 billion units (BU), higher than the 103.25 BU in the same month of 2021, the data showed.
Electricity consumption in February 2020 was 103.81 BU.
The peak demand met, the highest supply in a day, rose to 209.66 gigawatts (GW) in February 2023.
Peak power supply was 193.58 GW in February 2022 and 187.97 GW in February 2021.
The peak demand met was 176.38 GW in February 2020 pre-pandemic.
Experts believe that power consumption and demand will grow faster in the coming months due to forecasts of higher temperatures during this summer season compared to last year.
