New Delhi:
Aircraft maintenance technicians at IndiGo and Go First are on sick leave in protest at their low salaries, aviation regulator DGCA said Wednesday, adding it hopes the situation will improve soon.
The flight operations of these airlines have remained normal during the period, it said.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, operations are normal. Hopefully it will be resolved soon,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement.
IndiGo has begun disciplinary action against the technicians who went on massive sick leave in the past six days and protested low wages, sources said.
A significant portion of the Go First aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs) also went on sick leave in the past four days to protest their low salaries.
Indian airlines, hard hit during the Covid-19 pandemic, had cut their employees’ salaries to save money.
On July 2, about 55 percent of IndiGo’s domestic flights were delayed as a significant number of cabin crew members went on furlough, with sources saying they were reportedly going for a recruiting campaign with Air India.
