RBI asked banks to keep daily records of deposits and exchanges of Rs 2,000 notes.
Bombay:
The Reserve Bank on Monday advised banks to provide shade from the sun and water to customers waiting to exchange or deposit Rs 2,000 notes.
It may be noted that during the 2016 banknote ban there were allegations of customers dying while waiting in line to exchange banknotes.
Following Friday’s announcement of the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes – the notes remain legal tender in opposition to demonetization exercises – there were concerns about customers being inconvenienced, especially with summer at its peak.
“Banks are advised to provide appropriate infrastructure at the branches such as shaded waiting area, drinking water facilities, etc. given the summer season,” RBI said in a message Monday.
It asked banks to offer the banknote exchange facility to the public in the usual way, that is, as it had been done before.
The banking regulator also asked banks to keep daily records of deposits and exchanges of Rs 2,000 notes.
