New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that both the public and private sectors should exploit synergies and think out of the box to seize opportunities that arise as a result of the emerging global environment.
While interacting with renowned economists and experts from NITI Aayog ahead of the Union Budget, Prime Minister Modi also applauded the success of the India Digital story and the rapid adoption of fintech across the country, an official statement said.
At the meeting, economists offered suggestions on ways for India to maintain its development momentum, it added. They said that thanks to its resilience, India has become a bright spot in the turbulent world scene.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and senior government officials attended the interaction. Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and other members were also present, sources said.
Economists participating in the meeting included Shankar Acharya, Ashok Gulati and Shamika Ravi.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi noted that while there were risks, the emerging global environment offers new and diverse opportunities in areas such as digitalisation, energy, healthcare and agriculture.
Seizing these opportunities requires both the public and private sectors to leverage synergies and think outside the box, the release said.
PM Modi praised the success of the India Digital story and the rapid adoption of fintech across the country, and the potential for inclusive growth and development it promises.
He also highlighted Nari Shakti as a major driver of India’s growth and urged continued efforts to enable and boost women’s labor force participation.
The release further said that participants offered practical measures on ways India could prudently maintain its development momentum. Ideas and suggestions were shared with the Prime Minister on a variety of topics ranging from agriculture to manufacturing.
Recognizing that underlying global headwinds are likely to persist, strategic recommendations were also shared to further strengthen India’s resilience. “There was agreement that due to its resilience, India has become a bright spot on the turbulent world stage,” the release said.
It was suggested that new growth impulses should build on this foundation through holistic development across all sectors.
The deliberations were based on the theme of “India’s growth and resilience amid global headwinds”.
