New Delhi:
IndiGo is entering its next level of growth and cost leadership is crucial for the airline, CEO Pieter Elbers said Monday.
Currently, IndiGo operates approximately 1,800 daily flights and has a fleet of more than 300 aircraft.
“We are moving to the next level of growth”,Pieter Elbers said this during a session of the CAPA India aviation summit in the national capital.
He noted that the V-shaped recovery of the country’s aviation sector is part of the learning.
After being significantly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the aviation sector is on a strong recovery path and domestic air traffic has almost reached pre-pandemic levels.
Pieter Elbers noted that affordable rates are important and said maintaining cost leadership is crucial.
The low-cost carrier is the largest airline in the country with a market share of more than 55 percent. Responding to a question, Elbers said Indian aviation will move towards more sustainable financing, adding that there is more stability in the market.
The airline is focusing on internationalization of its operations. It plans to launch flights to Nairobi, Jakarta and some Central Asian destinations.
