SA vs IND: Former South African cricketer remembers Virat Kohli’s 2018 comment© AFP
Former South African pacemaker Allan Donald quoted a remark made by Virat Kohli in 2018 as he credited the Indian cricket team for its improved form in Tests. Speaking to cricket.co.za, Donald said he is looking forward to the upcoming three-game Test series between India and South Africa, adding that the hosts’ batters would be put to the test by the visiting Indian attack. “Both teams are lined up really well, both have strong bowling formations and that means hitting on both sides will be tested,” Donald said.
“Our batting has lost a number of key players in recent seasons. There is no hiding that it is a young line-up and they will be tested by the Indian attack,” he added.
“For me, that’s where the series will be decided. We haven’t scored enough runs in recent seasons and that’s going to be the challenge. If we can put the runs on the board, we’ll definitely have the bowlers who have 20 wickets. There’s a really good balance in our attack, and it will be interesting to watch,” explained the former Proteas pacer.
“There is no doubt that this is one of the biggest series in the world game and we can look forward to an incredible battle in the summer,” he added.

Speaking of India’s improved form since Kohli’s 2018 comment that his side should do better outdoors, Donald said: “Kohli’s comments a few years ago were that you will never be classified as a great side if you don’t win away from home and that is something he has really worked towards. You saw them win in Australia and also reach the WTC (World Test Championship) Final.
“This is a quality Indian team that’s here. I’m looking forward to it.”
