The Indian all -rounder R. Ashwin will pop up for Sydney Thunder in the coming season of the Big Bash League (BBL), confirmed the Australian side on Thursday.
With this Ashwin will become the first male player to represent India to become a member of a BBL club.
“Thunder was crystal clear about how they would use me and brave enough to support it. My conversations with the leadership were excellent and we are fully tailored to my role.
“I think it's great how Dave Warner plays the game, and it's always better if your leader shares your mentality. I can't wait to perform for the Thunder Nation,” said Ashwin, who had retired from IPL Cricket last month.

The 39-year-old Ashwin withdrawn from the international cricket during the tour last year during the tour after a decorated career in which he became India's on the second highest wicket-maker (537) in tests behind Anil Kumble (619).
Trent Copeland, Sydney Thunder General Manager, expressed his excitement about bringing in Ashwin. “I am so proud that Ashwin Sydney Thunder chose. From the first time we spoke, Ashwin impressed everyone at The Thunder with his passion, desire to win and understand what our club makes special.”
The next edition of the BBL starts on December 14, where Sydney Thunder opens his campaign on December 17 with a collision against Hobart Hurricanes.
Earlier this month, Hong Kong Cricket confirmed that Ashwin will participate in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 for Team India.
