The owners of the BCCI and IPL team will discuss possible backup locations for the upcoming edition of the competition in a virtual meeting on Saturday. The mega auction venue, scheduled to open in Bengaluru on February 12-13, will also come under discussion as the country faces the third wave of COVID-19. “Owners have been invited to the meeting and it will be held virtually,” a team official told PTI. BCCI’s first preference is to hold the event in India, but if the COVID situation worsens, it should have a backup plan ready.
The 2020 edition was held entirely in the UAE, while the second half of the 2021 edition was held in the Emirates after the event was suspended in India due to the second wave of COVID-19.
The IPL is usually held in the period April-May.
