The highly anticipated Asia Cup matches between India and Pakistan will be held in Sri Lanka as the Rohit Sharma-led team will not travel to Pakistan, IPL president Arun Dhumal confirmed on Wednesday. Dhumal, who is in Durban for the ICC Chief Executives Meet (CEC), confirmed that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and PCB Representative Zaka Ashraf met ahead of the ICC board meeting scheduled for Thursday to finalize the schedule.
“Our secretary met PCB head Zaka Ashraf and the Asia Cup schedule was finalized and it is on track as discussed earlier. There will be four league stage matches in Pakistan followed by nine matches in Sri Lanka, including matches between India and Pakistan. and in case of third match if both teams play final,” Dhumal told PTI from Durban.
He dismissed reports from the Pakistani media that India would travel to the neighboring country, as their sports minister Ehsan Mazari had claimed in some quarters.
“No discussion has been held. Neither India will travel to Pakistan nor our secretary will travel, contrary to reports that have surfaced. Only the schedule is final,” added Dhumal.
India will most likely play Pakistan at Dambulla in Sri Lanka just like the 2010 edition.
Pakistan’s only home game in their country is against minnows Nepal.
The other three matches are Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan.
