Mandatory domestic cricket, restrictions on the presence of families and personal staff on tours and a ban on individual displays of support during series were among a slew of measures unveiled by the BCCI on Thursday in a 10-point policy to promote 'discipline and unity' in the sport. controversial national cricket team. Non-compliance would lead to sanctions including cuts in central contract commissions and a ban on participation in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. The measures have been announced in the wake of the team's disastrous tour of Australia, which was preceded by a series whitewash against New Zealand on home soil.
The board has only allowed two weeks for families to stay with the players during overseas tours, in addition to imposing restrictions on personal staff and commercial shoots.
“Any exception or deviation must be approved in advance by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the Head Coach. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by the BCCI,” the Board policy said.
“Furthermore, the BCCI reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any player, which may include sanctions against the player concerned for participation in any tournament organized by BCCI, including the Indian Premier League; and deduction of the commission amount/match fees under the BCCI player contract,” it warns.
The document also states that from now on players will no longer be allowed to travel separately during a tour and that players will also be discouraged from leaving early if a tour or match ends early.
