Star India batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been hit hard in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. In the wake of India's humiliating 10-wicket loss to Australia in the Adelaide Pink Ball Test last week, Kohli and Rohit suffered huge losses after Wednesday's latest update. While Kohli dropped six places to 20th, Rohit falls out of the top 30 as he is currently at 31st after losing five places. Kohli, who appeared to be getting his mojo back after smashing his 30th century in the Perth Test, looked out of sorts in Adelaide, posting scores of 7 and 11 last week.
Rohit, on the other hand, dropped to no. 6 in the batting order. However, he scored just nine in both innings in Adelaide. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are the only Indians currently in the top 10.
While Jaiswal is fourth, Pant dropped three places and is currently at the ninth spot. Behind them, Shubman Gill is the second-highest ranked Indian, with the youngster currently 17.
In a huge development, Harry Brook overtook Joe Root to take the top spot in the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.
“A changing of the guard at the top of the Test batting chart as stars from Australia and South Africa make big gains on the updated list,” ICC said in a statement.
Joe Root's reign as the world's best player came to an end when rising England star Harry Brook confirmed his rise to the top by claiming the No. 1 ranking for the first time in the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.
Brook overtakes Root to take the top Test batsman rankings after his eighth Test century against New Zealand in Wellington last week, with the English right-hander now holding a slim one-point lead over his more experienced teammate at the top of the ranking.
Brook's rise to a total of 898 rating points is just one more than Root's current reach of 897 and sees the 25-year-old join Indian great Sachin Tendulkar with the equal 34th highest rating of all time for Test batters.
Root has held the top spot since edging out former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson in July this year and has held the top spot a total of nine times during his glittering career.
