India suffered their second straight defeat in the Women's ODI World Cup 2025, losing to Australia by three wickets in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
The defeat left India stuck on four points after four matches in the showpiece tournament and finished at third place in the standings.
South Africa is ranked fourth in the standings in terms of points, along with India, but is lower due to an inferior net run rate (NRR). However, the Proteas have a game in hand against India.

India's chances of qualifying for the last four of the tournament are largely in their own hands as the country will face both New Zealand and Bangladesh in the remainder of the competition.
If India manages to beat both the teams, it will collect eight points, which will be enough to secure the fourth spot in the standings if it has a higher NRR than both the above-mentioned teams.
If India wins all three remaining encounters, they will secure a place in the top four irrespective of the NRR calculations.
