Young Indian pacesetter Avesh Khan
India announced a 15-man roster for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament, to be played in the UAE from August 27, and the fast bowling division has a few young faces in the absence of top-class pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh are both included in the roster.
On SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘Sports Over The Top’, former Indian wicketkeeper and selector Saba Karim supported the inclusion of Avesh Khan in the Asian Cup squad.
“I have a feeling that once you’ve invested in young people like Avesh Khan, you may not be able to let them out to barbecue and such young people have done nothing wrong. I can understand that Mohammed Shami in current form is a strong bet, even more so with Jasprit Bumrah due to an injury, but it just feels the selectors want to have that kind of assurance and they want to stick with the youngsters they have so much of show confidence.”
India takes on Pakistan in a blockbuster hit on August 28 and the two teams are also expected to face each other in the Super 4 stage as they qualify.
Rohit Sharma leads the Indian team and KL Rahul is back as vice captain.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli also returned to the squad and all eyes will be on him as he looks forward to returning to his scoring form.
Avesh Khan has so far amassed 11 wickets in 13 T20Is while Arshdeep Singh has taken 9 wickets in 6 matches and has a much better economy than Avesh.
