Senior Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara cashed in with an unbeaten double hundred in the second innings when Sussex tied for Derbyshire in Sunday’s 2022 County Championship. Pujara made his debut for Sussex and was dismissed on the second day for six from 15 balls in his first innings when his team folded for 174 in 56.3 overs in response to Derbyshire’s 505.
However, the Indian put on a great show in his second essay, hitting an unconquered 201 not out of 387 balls. His innings was littered with 23 hits on the fence.
He shared a 351-run partnership with skipper Tom Haines (243) for the third wicket to save Sussex, who had 513 for three in 176.1 overs when the match ended in a draw.
The veteran batter was dropped from the Test-team after the series in South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane was also ignored for the home series against Sri Lanka.
