Shaheen Shah Afridi has become Pakistan’s main pacesetter in recent years, making his mark in all three formats for the national team and in the Pakistan Super League. His last stint was in the County Championship, taking 14 wickets in three matches. Former England pacer Darren Gough appointed the 22-year-old left-arm sailor as a future captain for his national team, citing his achievements as skipper for Lahore Qalandars. Afridi led the Qalandars to their first Pakistani Super League title earlier this year.
“Shaheen is a great talent, he is hungry for success, he is very energetic, he enjoyed being captain of the Qalandars, I think he led them very well with a lot of enthusiasm,” Gough said as he spoke to Cricket Pakistan.
“He is definitely Pakistan’s future captain,” Gough said.
He said Afridi is an “amazing talent” and that Pakistan has an “incredible cricketer” if he can match the impact of another of the country’s left-arm pacers, Wasim Akram.

“If you look at him for Middlesex, he is an amazing talent that will last a very long time. And if he becomes as good as Wasim Akram, then you have an incredible cricketer. He is at the top of his game and one of the best. best cricketers in the world,” he said.
Shaheen Afridi has played 24 Tests, 30 ODIs and 40 T20Is for Pakistan so far, picking 95, 59 and 47 wickets in the three formats respectively.
