Dinesh Karthik was a journeyman in the Indian Premier League and represented numerous teams in the tournament. Prior to IPL 2022, Dinesh Karthik was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 5.50 crore in the IPL mega auction. RCB beat the fierce competition from Chennai Super Kings in the auction to finally get their man. Karthik then repaid RCB’s confidence with some superlatives for the team in IPL 2022, playing a key role in their qualification to the IPL 2022 play-offs. However, RCB’s hopes of winning a first IPL title came to an end on Friday, after their loss to the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.
After the heartbreaking loss, Dinesh Karthik shared what it was like to represent RCB in the IPL. The wicketkeeper batter also said the RCB fanbase was the best he’s ever been a part of in the IPL.
In his entire IPL career, Karthik played for Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, RCB (before the 2022 season), Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders.
“I’ve been on a lot of teams but this is the best fanbase I’ve ever been a part of because the cheers I got in the ground I’ve never gotten anywhere else. I’m really thankful, without fans like you I wouldn’t force myself at this age to try and achieve what I’m trying to achieve,” Karthik said in a video posted by RCB’s official YouTube handle.
“Thank you so much, you mean a lot in my life because it’s one thing to play IPL, but if you can put a smile on people’s faces, that’s the real reason you play sports. I’m really happy , I’m really grateful to have found this franchise and this fanbase that literally accepted me with open arms.”
“I have been blessed in many ways to achieve what we have done as a team, but the most important thing is that the fans who post on my social media feed, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, all these and the way they talk about me, I read a little here and there. The engagement they give, so much positivity, that’s where I feel like I’ve let you all down a little bit his year, but we’ll try very hard next season,” he added ready.
Dinesh Karthik was essential to RCB’s journey to the play-offs. He was the fourth-highest go-getter for the team this season, often hitting the last overs.
With limited opportunities to really make a big hit, Karthik still managed to score 330 runs in 16 games with an exceptional average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33.
In fact, Karthik’s batting rate this season was the best for any player with over 200 runs.
