The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday designated a 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Championship to be played in Australia. Jos Buttler was to lead, while lead-off hitter Jason Roy was dropped. Seam bowlers Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have recovered from their respective injuries and have been named in both teams for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the IT20 tour of Pakistan in September.
“Both players last played for England on the West Indies test tour in March,” an official release said.
England will play their first match of the T20 World Cup on October 22 against Afghanistan in Perth. Jos Buttler’s squad will face Australia on October 28, while the Three Lions will face New Zealand on November 1.
The World Cup final will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13.
Chris Jordan (finger) and Liam Livingstone (ankle) will continue their rehabilitation and will not tour Pakistan for the World Cup but remain on track to be fit for the tournament in Australia. England captain Jos Buttler, recovering from a calf injury, will be touring Pakistan but is expected to be available to play in the final stages of the seven-game series. In Buttler’s absence, Moeen Ali will have captained the squad,” the release said.
