In IPL 2022, several top Indian stars have been in action for over a month now and the form of some players may be a concern for Indian team management in a World Cup year, but that of so many others is encouraging as well. India relied heavily on its top order to supply the goods in limited overs cricket and it was the lack of runs from them in last year’s T20 World Cup that cost the team a place in the semi-finals.
KL Rahul is in good form in IPL 2022 and he will be a key figure for India at the World Cup, to be played in Australia later this year. But worrying is the form of captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli. It will be interesting to see if Rohit, Rahul and Virat occupy the top 3 positions for the team as the trio fell short in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has impressed again this season and former chief selector MSK Prasad believes the left-hander can be tried again in the opener’s close, with Rahul in the middle tier at number 4.
“These three are indispensable when they are fit. There is no way you can leave any of them behind for the World T20. But then again, when I look at numbers, I might try someone like Shikhar Dhawan at the opening and watch Rahul at No. 4. He has a T20 hundred in Manchester a few years ago, so why not,” Prasad told PTI.

“But yes, I want Virat to take an important break and for the Asian Cup he has to be fresh and up to date,” said Prasad.
India is grouped alongside Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh in the 2022 T20 World Cup Super 12 stage.
