While Team India faced England on Friday in the rescheduled fifth Test against England in Edgbaston, Dinesh Karthik made his captaincy debut and led a second-rate Indian team in a Tour match against Derbyshire on the same day. After scoring a century against Ireland in the second T20I earlier this week, Deepak Hooda scored a match-winning fifty as India defeated Derbyshire by seven wickets. Though it was just an exhibition game, Karthik was elated after his captaincy debut and shared an emotional post on social media
“I’ve been there for many years, but this was the first time I led the team in blue. Even though it was a warm-up match, it felt special and a great honor. Big thanks to everyone who has always supported and for the wishes Proud to be part of this team,” Karthik wrote in a tweet.
