Root also joined an elite roster of players to score 10,000 runs in the longest format, becoming the youngest alongside Alastair Cook to do so. Former Australia captain Mark Taylor was also effusive in his praise, going so far as to say Root could very well break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 runs in test cricket.
“Root has at least five years to go, so I think Tendulkar’s record is very achievable,” Mark Taylor told Sky Sports.

Root became only the second Englishman to reach the milestone after Cook and 14th overall. He reached the 10,000 run mark in his 218th innings to become England’s fastest batter. Cook had reached the 10,000-run in his 229th innings.
