Indian lead-off hitter KL Rahul was in focus as the ‘Men in Blue’took on Hong Kong in their second Group A encounter in 2022 Asia Cup in Dubai. Rahul was fired for a golden duck in India’s opening match against Pakistan and this outing was important for him to get back into the groove. Rahul spent some time in the middle and also got 36 runs under his belt, but he barely looked like a batter playing T20 cricket. Rahul used 39 balls for his 36 before being fired. At the time of his dismissal, India was struggling with 94/2 after 13 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav, who came in as batter after Rahul, hit an unbeaten 68 from just 26 balls to drive the team’s score to 192/2 in 20 overs.
Even Virat Kohli showed good form as he remained unbeaten on 59 from 44 balls.
Previously, captain Rohit Sharma had shown intent by scoring 21 points from 13 balls before being sacked.
Rahul’s approach, at a time when India wants to play cricket aggressively, has drawn sharp criticism from former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad.
“Is there anything in the field that is not visible. I just can’t fathom this approach, especially from KL Rahul. #IndvsHkgPrasad wrote on Twitter.

KL Rahul has been criticized in the past for scoring points at a slow pace. In fact, he has scored tons of runs in IPL, but his franchise often lost crunch games as Rahul’s slow strokes cost the team.
Whether or not he can change his approach in the coming games will be key to determining whether he will get the nod to open the innings for India at the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
