Kamran Akmal was known for being vocal throughout his career, opening his heated exchange with Gautam Gambhir during Pakistan’s 2010 Asia Cup match against India. The 40-year-old explained that the duo do not share any rivalry and that the altercation was the result of a “misunderstanding”. The former wicketkeeper batter also added that the former India opener is “a good person and also a good cricketer”.
Speaking of Legends League Cricket’s (LLC) Instagram handle, Akmal was asked who he shared a bigger rivalry with; Gambhir or Harbhajan Singh.
“I don’t think I have any rivalry with either of them. It happened because of a misunderstanding. It happened. I had a misunderstanding with Gautam in Asia Cup. He is a good person and also a good cricketer. We played together with a team. There so there’s no rivalry. Seriously, there’s nothing,” he said.
India had won the match by three wickets. Gambhir also scored the highest score for his side with an 83-run knockout. India went on to win the trophy, beating Sri Lanka in the final by 81 runs.
Kamran Akmal also stated that he also has no rivalry with pacemaker Ishant Sharma.
“Even with Ishant Sharma I have no rivalry. Whatever happened in Bengaluru,” he added.
