England Fast Bowler Olly Stone will miss the majority of five games against India after a knee operation that excludes him for 14 weeks. Stone played the last of his five tests against Sri Lanka in September and hoped to tackle further distinctions with Nottinghamshire this year. But the last in a long line of fitness issues means that he will start a long recovery period of more than three months as the provincial season starts on Friday. He joins Fellow England Quicks Mark Wood and Brydon Carse at the start of the domestic campaign.
“England and Nottinghamshire Fast Bowler Olly Stone are excluded from all the cricket after scans and the subsequent operation this week, which confirmed a right knee injury,” said the cricket board of England and Wales in a statement.
“Stone experienced increasing discomfort during the pre-season tour of Nottinghamshire by Abu Dhabi last month. Further scans that were performed this week revealed the need for an operation. He will now start with a period of rehabilitation, which work closely with the medical teams at both the ECB and Nottinghamshire.”
England is confronted with Zimbabwe in a one-off test from 22 May in preparation for the visit to India, with the five-test series that starts on June 20.
Stone could be back in action by the time of the last two tests, but will return earlier for the London Spirit in the hundred, which starts on August 5.
