After the fifth defeat in the ongoing IPL 2022 against Gujarat Titans, disappointed Chennai Super Kings skipper Ravindra Jadeja said they started brilliantly but the team failed to execute on the ‘plan’ to win in the last five about the match. David Miller’s undefeated half-century and Rashid Khan’s quick knock helped Gujarat Titans defeat Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets in their IPL 2022 match here at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Sunday.
“We started brilliantly. The first six overs were good as a bowling unit but credit goes to Miller, played some good cricket shots. When we hit the wicket had grip and the ball held on so we thought 169 was a par score,” Ravindra Jadeja said in a post-match presentation.
David Miller’s sensational 94* knock was well matched by stand-in captain Rashid Khan’s quick 21-ball 40 innings as Gujarat chased the goal 0f 170 with a ball over.
“But we didn’t execute our plans in the last five (20th over). I think CJ (Chris Jordan) is experienced so I thought let me go with him. He can bowl 4-5 yorkers. Sadly it didn’t happen today, that’s the beauty of T20 cricket,” he added.
This is the fifth win in six games for Gujarat Titans, while the fifth defeat in six games for Chennai Super Kings. GT is currently at the top of the Indian Premier League 2022 table with 10 points, while CSK is just above the victory-less Mumbai Indians.
Gujarat chased 170 and got off to a bad start as they amassed 37 runs with the loss of three wickets in the first six overs. Mukesh Choudhary removed Shubhman Gill for a golden duck in the first over. While Maheesh Theekshana sacked Vijay Shankar and Abhinav Manohar in 2nd and 4th respectively.
CSK got their fourth wicket in the 8th after skipper Ravindra Jadeja struck to send Wriddhiman Saha back to the pavilion. David Miller brought his fifty up in the 12th over when CSK leaked 19 runs in that over. With momentum in Gujarat’s favor, Dwayne Bravo threw down a sensational maiden wicket to turn the tide of the game. Bravo fired Rahul Tewatia in that over.
Rashid Khan then joined David Miller in the crease and the duo made it through the tricky phase without losing wickets. With 48 needed from the last 18 deliveries, Rashid went ballistic in the 18th over from Chris Jordan when the stand-in skipper busted three sixes and a four. Gujarat collected 25 runs in that over.

Bravo sent Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph in the penultimate over, but it was too late until Miller took his team home in the last over of the game with a ball left.
