Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes Indian batsman Virat Kohli will score 110 international centuries by the time he pulls down the curtain on his career. After a 1205-day wait, Virat Kohli finally registered a Test century last week, with three figures on day four of the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad. Kohli brought up his 28th Test century. There was a 41 innings gap between his last century and this one, with the previous over three years ago against Bangladesh in November 2019.
Kohli scored 186 points as his knock played a vital role in helping India draw with Australia and eventually book a World Cup final with Australia.
Kohli currently has a total of 75 international centuries to his credit. He is second on the list of international hitters led by Sachin Tendulkar.
Akhtar believes that if the burden of captaincy is lifted from Kohli’s shoulders, he will score points like a “beast” and cross the 100th century mark.
“Virat Kohli had to get back into shape so it’s nothing new for me. The pressure of the captaincy was on him, finally he is mentally free now. Now he will play with so much focus. I have full confidence in him that he will that will do.” score 110 centuries and break the record of Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 international tons. Now he doesn’t have much captaincy and he will run like a beast,” Akhtar said while applauding Kohli, as quoted by ANI.
The “Rawalpindi Express” said Sachin Tendulkar was his favorite wicket during his international career.
“I remember once telling my teammate that I would take Sachin’s wicket. At that time we were playing in Kolkata. On the very first ball, I took Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket in front of a crowd of 1 lakh. I still remember half of the ground emptied after Sachin returned,” Akhtar said.
