Virat Kohli is arguably the greatest hitter of his time. After a lean bit with the bat, Kohli has recently regained his magic touch and is back to his best. Kohli, who had not scored a ton for over three years, ended his century-long drought in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan last year, his first hundred in T20Is. Since then, the 35-year-old has not looked back, breaking three centuries in his last seven ODI outings. He is just three ODI tons away from tying former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar (49) of scoring most tons in the format.
Now an experienced Pakistani batsman has claimed that his record in List A cricket is better than Kohli’s.
In a recent interaction, Khurram Manzoor, who represented Pakistan in 16 Tests, seven ODIs and three T20Is, was asked about a claim he had made about his List A numbers being better than Kohli.
Manzoor, who last played for Pakistan in 2016, clarified that his intention was not to compare himself to the former India captain, but to highlight his achievements in domestic cricket.
“I don’t compare myself to Virat Kohli. The fact is that in 50-overs cricket, whoever is in the top-10, I’m number 1 in the world. Kohli is behind me, because he scores a century every six innings . I score every 5.68 innings a century, which is a world record. Over the last 10 years, my average is 53, and I am ranked fifth in the world, in List A cricket,” Manzoor said on Nadir Ali’s Podcast .
The 36-year-old said that despite regularly scoring runs in domestic cricket, he was ignored by the national selectors.
“I have also scored 24 centuries in the last 48 innings. Between 2015 and now, whoever opened for Pakistan, I still remain the top scorer among them. I am also the top scorer and century catcher in the national T20. Still, I am ignored I have 8-9 records (in List A cricket),” he added.
Notably, Manzoor last played for Pakistan at the Asia Cup in 2016. He has since honed his skills in Pakistan’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and National Cup.
Manzoor, who plays his domestic cricket for Sindh, has scored over 12,000 runs in First Class matches and nearly 8,000 runs in List A cricket.
