Former India opener Murali Vijay has made some honest confessions about his career in the national team. Vijay last played for India in 2018 and found his chances frozen. Having opened for quite some time with Virender Sehwag on India’s test team, Vijay is now open about the indifferent treatment he received, especially in terms of support from team management. Vijay claimed that he could have tried a few things too if the team management had supported him the way they supported Sehwag.
Speaking to WV Raman on Sportstar, Vijay said “Deliberately I didn’t get Virender Sehwag’s freedom to be honest. Whatever Sehwag got in his life I didn’t get. If I could have gotten that kind of support” It’s a high-level competition and you don’t have many opportunities to experiment in different ways.” “
Vijay also shared the experience of playing with Sehwag. The veteran hitter said he found it hard to control his instincts when he saw Sehwag hit the way he did.
“When Sehwag was there I felt like I had my instincts under control and playing was hard, but to see him go through such freedom was something spectacular.
“Only he could have done that. I don’t think anyone else could have played like Sehwag. What he did for Indian cricket was amazing. Different… he is something else that I saw visually. I was privileged to work with him to go. It was so simple. He kept his mantra so simple: see the ball and hit. He was in that mode; he was singing songs for 90-90 mph bowlers. You experience something different. It’s not normal he added.
After finishing the ‘BCCI chapter’, Vijay is now looking for opportunities abroad.
