Royal Challengers Bangalore kicked off the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign defeating five-time champions Mumbai Indians at M Chinnaswamy stadium. While the start of the pursuit of an IPL title was phenomenal for the Bengaluru franchise, much more needs to be done in the next 2 months if the team is to take the trophy. Virat Kohli, who played a leading role in RCB’s victory over MI, said the Bengaluru side is a ‘big franchise’ which is why fans expect so much.
On an episode of RCB Insider, Kohli had a candid conversation with Mr. Nags where the two discussed the franchise’s achievements on social media.
“Our social media performance is miles ahead of everyone else. Get a trophy there and then watch. You take a social media trophy and see how RCB will win. Not just a competition. Two weeks after the tournament we will win. No need to play the last few games; 4-5 enough,” said Kohli.
Kohli talked about the fact that fans have high expectations of RCB every year. On the other hand, some also believe that while the franchise plays well in snippets, it doesn’t have what it takes to go all the way.
Answering those doubters, Kohli said it’s because RCB is a big franchise and it has huge expectations. It proves they are not a faaltu team.
“This is a big franchise pressure. A lot of people like it all and games like ‘This team isn’t winning’. Come and play, when there are so many expectations. We are a big team. Why else would we have so many fans when we have a faaltu team were,” added Kohli.
