Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya said the team will not put too much pressure on Jasprit Bumrah and will give him ample time to make his comeback from injury after the pacer was not included in India’s playing XI for the first T20I against Australia. Bumrah was sorely missed in the series opener against Australia on Tuesday, as the visitors chased 209 fairly comfortably to take a four-wicket win and take the lead in the three-game streak. Apart from Axar Patel, all Indian bowlers leaked more than 11 runs per over.
Bumrah, who did not play the Asia Cup due to a back injury, has been included in the T20 World Cup roster and the previous series against Australia and South Africa.
“We all know what he brings to the table and how important he is to us. There will be concerns here and there (about bowling), which is fine. We have to trust our guys. These are the best 15 in the country and that that’s why they’re in the squad,” said Hardik.
“Obviously the fact that Jasprit isn’t there makes a big difference. He’s coming back from injury, it’s important for him to have enough time to come back and he shouldn’t put too much pressure on himself.” Hardik hit 71 out of 30 balls to take India past 200. He has been the standout player of the team since his comeback after the IPL.
Speaking about his achievements lately, he said: “I’ve had a lot of success lately, but what’s more important to me is that even on my good days, how can I get better? The kind of career chart I’ve had, I don’t make a big deal about my performances, be it success or failure.
“I played a good game today (Tuesday night). They could target me in the next game and I have to be one step ahead.” Australia gave chase with hammer and tongs and made a mockery of the Indian attack.
Hardik gave credit to the opposing batters.
“There was no dew. You have to give them credit for how they hit. They played good cricket. We couldn’t carry out our plans with the ball, with our deliveries.
“You can’t say why we lost. It’s a game. It’s a bilateral series. We have two games left and we will try to perform better.” He also praised Cameron Green, who crushed 61 of 30 balls on his opening debut and shocked the Indians with his attack.

“Good for the way he played. We’ve seen a lot of videos, but it’s all about executing your plans. He played some good shots and deserved the credit,” Hardik added. PTI BS SSC SSC
