As the riveting Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 enters its third chapter, there could be a new twist in the cards. The third Test between India and Australia – to be played at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane – may not even go ahead at all. This is because Brisbane has seen heavy rain showers in recent days. In an area largely unaffected by rain at this time of year, the issue could be a spoilsport with rain forecast on all five days of the Test match.
Most rain is forecast on day 1, Saturday December 14. According to AccuWeather, there is an 88 percent chance of rain during the day. This could well hinder the game on day 1. Thunderstorms are also forecast.
According to the forecast, rain will decrease over the next four days. However, a morning shower is also forecast on day 2, which could hamper proceedings.
Although little to no rain is forecast on days 3 and 5, an afternoon shower is planned for day 4.
The first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy went off completely without rain. Although there was a threat of rain in Perth, conditions improved by the time the Test match started.
Most of the third Test is expected to have cloudy and overcast conditions, which could further aid fast bowling.
Due to the rain, the Test match could last as long as Day 5. So far, both Test matches have not gone that far. The first test ended in the first session of day 4, while the second test ended in just two and a half days.
The series is finished at 1-1 heading into the third Test. Both sides are eyeing a place in the final of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC).
