Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha gave an update on skipper Shakib Al Hasan ahead of their match against India in the ongoing World Cup. Shakib was injured while running during the match. He bowled his quota of ten overs but it was clear he was in pain. After the game, he didn’t show up for the post-match interaction.
During the pre-match press conference, Hathurusingha was asked about the veteran all-rounder’s availability, to which he replied: “If he is not ready to play, we will not risk him. But if he is ready, then there is a chance he plays tomorrow.”
“He had a good batting session yesterday and did a bit of running between the wickets. We did a scan today so we are waiting for the results. At the moment he is fine. We haven’t tried bowling yet. So He will come tomorrow morning and we will reassess him and make a decision then,” Hathurusingha added.
Bangladesh have been worried about the batting department as they have struggled to put runs on the board during the ongoing World Cup.
With the Pune track promising to be a stroke-friendly pitch, Hathurusingha spoke about the approach their team will adopt.
“Yes, this wicket is probably the best batting wicket we have come across so far. And even the practice wickets were similar, really good. We had a really good net session yesterday. As you rightly said, we didn’t post a full batting performance, or for that matter, full performance with the ball and the bat so far. So we are expected to give a full performance. And we know that when we play as a team and we perform to our capabilities and have a big win achieved. We have done well in the past. So I think our fingers are crossed that we are ready for one of those days,” Hathurusingha added.
