ICC Women’s World Cup, India Women vs South Africa Women, Live Updates: Indian openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got off to a solid start as they added 50 runs for the first wicket in 8.1 overs after India chose to face South Africa at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Two changes each for India and South Africa in their respective final XIs. Meghna Singh came in for Jhulan Goswami, while Deepti Sharma for Punam Yadav and South Africa, Lara Goodall for Tazmin Britten and Masabata Klaas for Tumi Sekhukhune. Although South Africa has already qualified, India must win – or fail – to make it to the last four of the World Cup. If they lose, they will need England to lose to Bangladesh by a worse margin so that they fall below the Mithali Raj-led team on Net Run Rate. (LIVE SCORING CARD)

Mithali Raj at the toss: “We have a bat. Yesterday’s game was played on the same course. Spinners get some help in the second innings. It’s a good wicket to hit when the sun is out. We need to be composed and play our best cricket. We have two changes. Meghna Singh comes in for Jhulan, Deepti for Punam.”

Sune Luus at the toss: “We hit first, but I don’t think the wicket will change much. It’s still a World Cup game. We need to hit our belts and get the confidence to the semi-finals. It’s not just a game that we can relax. We want to play our best cricket. We made two changes. Lara Goodall comes in for Tazmin Britten and Masabata Klaas comes in for Tumi Sekhukhune.”

Pitch Report by Sanjay Manjrekar and WV Raman at the Hagley Ova in Christchurch

Pitch Report by Sanjay Manjrekar and WV Raman:

†The sun is shining, the breeze has coolness in it, it’s a perfect mix. Great setting for this important game. Same pitch as yesterday. Side borders are identical, straight borders are quite long. The surface is dry, which means there is no turn for the spinners. There is also no moisture, which means there is no sideways movement for the seams. They can take resilience off the surface.”

Sun Luus: “We hit first, but I don’t think the wicket will change too much. It’s still a World Cup game. We need to hit our belts and get the confidence to the semi-finals. It’s not just a game we can relax. We want to play our best cricket. We have made two changes. Lara Goodall comes in for Tazmin Britten and Masabata Klaas comes in for Tumi Sekhukhune.”
